Overview

elvm is the companion of elephc: it pins the compiler version for each project. A committed .elephc-version decides which compiler runs, so every contributor and every CI job builds with the same one. PATH gets a single entry, then a shim resolves the version and execs the real binary, with no shell hooks.

It installs published releases, nightly builds of main, or builds from source where no binary is published. Running elephc never downloads anything: if the selected version is missing, elvm tells you which command installs it.

What it does

  • Per-project pinning with a committed .elephc-version
  • No shell hooks: one PATH entry and a shim
  • Single binary
  • Builds from source where no binary is published
  • Nightly builds of main on a separate channel
  • elvm doctor for PATH and install problems
